- Mickfield Boot Sale
A
Car Boot Sale was held at Mickfield on Sunday 15th September.
It was very well supported by Playbus users and local
residents and everyone had an enjoyable day. Among the
attractions was an authentic steam engine brought along
by John Charles from Thwaite. The barrel double crank
compound contractors road locomotive took John 2 1/2 years
to build and weighs over 2 tons.
The event raised over £500 for the Playbus. Hundreds
of people turned up on the day to rummage for a bargain
on more than 40 pitches. There was face painting for the
children, a tombola, raffle and refreshments. The Playbus
was there for the children while mums and dads had a look
round.
Star
of the show was the BBC TV's 'Brum' made by local inventor
and special effects wizard Rex Garrod. He was a hit with
adults and children alike and talked about robots including
Cassius and Real Robot which were also on display.
The organisers would like to thank Rex, John, the Mickfield
and Stonham Aspal mums & dads, Denise, Sara, Sue and
the residents of Mickfield who gave so generously.
